    Program Overview

    If you’ve ever had a boss who was really good at what he or she did but was also fun to be around, you didn’t mind arriving early or working late. In fact, you probably loved your job. That’s the power of Do it Well, Make it Fun. It’s about seeking excellence but making the process of life and work more fun.

    Based on Ron Culberson’s book by the same name, this hilarious presentation shows staff and leaders how to create a less stressful work environment where people want to work. It also helps them understand that excellence combined with fun and humor can improve productivity, create better working relationships, enhance creativity, change the workplace culture, and lead to the delivery of better products and services.

    Specifically, this presentation will help participants:

    • Recognize the difference between seriousness and excellence

    • Manage stress by changing their perspective and seeing the humor that’s all around them

    • Seek excellence in the processes in work and life

    • Make the experience of life and work more fun

     

    Objectives

    At the completion of this session, participants will be able to:

    • 1. Understand the difference between seriousness and excellence.

    a. Our brains are hardwired to be negative.

    b. How we learn to be more serious.

    c. Why seriousness is not the goal for success.

    • 2. Recognize that everything is a process and each step in the process can be improved and more fun.

    a. Discuss that everything in life and work is a process.

    b. Break down the process into steps and see where the potential for change is.

    c. Relate to quality improvement theory.

    • 3. Manage stress more effectively by changing their perspective and seeing the humor in their life.

    a. Discuss the relative nature of stress.

    b. Explain the impact of perspective on stress.

    c. Explain the impact of humor on creating balance and perspective.

    • 4. Manage the work environment so that you are more effective and have more fun.

    a. Discuss the processes in one’s work environment.

    b. Examine how to assess the skills needed to do the job.

    c. Show examples of best practices in improving the processes and making them more fun.

    Biography

    Ron Culberson, MSW, CSP, CPAE is a speaker, humorist, and author of four books, including Do it Well. Make it Fun: The Key to Success in Life, Death, and Almost Everything in Between. His mission is to change the workplace culture so that organizations are more productive and staff are more content. By combining excellence with humor, Ron helps organizations attract and retain great employees, develop excellent leaders, and deliver extraordinary products and services.

    For ten years, Ron worked in a large hospice organization as a social worker, Counseling Manager, and Senior Director of Quality Services. Through these roles, he gained experience on the front line, in middle management, and ultimately in senior management. He has a proven track record as a successful member of a multidisciplinary team and as an effective senior leader.

    Since 1996, Ron has delivered over 1000 presentations to over 140,000 people in the U.S. and abroad. In 2001 Ron received the Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation, the highest earned designation from the National Speakers Association and in 2014, he was inducted into the CPAE Speaker Hall of Fame®.

In 2010, he received the NSA President’s Distinguished Service Award. He has also served on numerous boards and committees for organizations such as Capital Hospice, the Art Gliner Center for Humor Studies, and Rotary International where he chaired his club’s largest fundraisers. Ron has received the Rotarian of the Year, and the Four Avenues of Service Awards, two of the highest awards given by Rotary
